سياه دانه با نام علمي Nigella sativa گياهي است كه از دانه آن به عنوان دارو استفاده مي شود و تاريخچه ي 2 هزار ساله دارد.

شواهدي نشان مي دهد كه سياه دانه تقويت كننده سيستم ايمني،مبارزه كننده با سرطان، ممانعت كننده از بارداري، كاهش دهنده ورم و آلرژي است. هرچند كه مطالعات باليني در اين ضمينه انجام نشده است.
سياه دانه در آسم به كاهش سرفه، خس خس سينه، عفونت ريه كمك مي كند اما اثر بخشي كمتري نسبت به داروهايي مثل تئوفيلين و سالبوتامول دارد.در ديابت كه نوعي سندروم متابوليك است، مصرف روزانه 2 گرم سياه دانه به كاهش قند خون و كلسترول كمك مي كند. در كساني كه مشكل پرفشاري خون دارند سياهدانه مي تواند اثر بخش باشد.
شواهدي نشان داده است كه مصرف موضعي سياهدانه به سينه در زمان قاعدگي به كاهش درد سينه مي تواند كمك كند. مصرف خوراكي سياه دانه سبب بهبود عملكرد اسپرم(افزايش تعداد و سرعت حركت) مي شود. سياهدانه به صورت اسپري در كاهش خشكي بيني مي تواند موثر واقع شود.به صورت خوراكي در درمان رينيت آلژيك و اگزما اثر بخش است.
سياهدانه به صورت خوراكي همراه عسل در بهبود هضم اثر بخش است. در زخم معده ناشي از هليكوباكتر مصرف سياهدانه همراه امپرازول در كاهش لود باكتري نقش دارد. در آرتريت روماتوئيد در كاهش درد و التهاب نقش دارد. سميت كبدي داروي متوتركسايت را كاهش مي دهد.
ايمني: به صورت خوراكي ايمن است و به صورت دارويي در كوتاه مدت ايمن مي باشد. در بارداري وشيردهي بهتر است استفاده نشود.
احتياطات: سياهدانه ريسك خونريزي را ممكن است افزايش دهد و بهتر است 2 هفته قبل از جراحي مصرف آن قطع شود.
